How to use the running pace calculator

Enter the distance completed, choose kilometers or miles, and enter the elapsed hours, minutes, and seconds. The calculator reports average pace in minutes per kilometer and minutes per mile, along with average speed in both kilometers and miles per hour.

Use the same kind of elapsed time when comparing efforts. A watch’s moving time may exclude stops, while an official race result normally uses the full time between crossing the start and finish timing points.

How pace and speed are calculated

Average pace is total elapsed time divided by distance. Average speed is distance divided by elapsed time. Miles and kilometers are converted using the international definition of exactly 1.609344 kilometers per mile.

The displayed pace is rounded to the nearest second. Because that rounded value is for readability, multiplying it back by a long distance may differ slightly from the original elapsed time.

This result is an average, not a prediction or training prescription. GPS measurement, route certification, elevation, weather, stops, and device auto-pause settings can all affect distance or time.
