The whole-package estimate shows what a fresh purchase would require. The consumption figure values only the amount expected to be eaten, so it can be lower than the checkout total when part of the final package remains.
Formulas
Total ounces equal pets multiplied by daily ounces per pet and days. Package weight is converted from pounds to ounces using 16 ounces per pound. Whole packages round the exact package requirement upward.
Consumed-food cost multiplies the exact package requirement by package price. Checkout cost multiplies complete packages by price.
Average per day divides the consumed-food cost by the number of days, not the checkout cost. The two differ whenever part of the final package is left over.

This calculator does not recommend how much to feed. Appropriate portions depend on the animal, food, health, and professional guidance. Prices and package sizes change, and opened food can have storage limits. Confirm the product label, current price, and your pet’s feeding plan.

Why are consumption cost and purchase cost different?
Consumption cost values only the fraction of each package used during the selected period. Purchase cost rounds packages upward because stores normally sell complete packages.
How do I find daily food ounces?
Use the feeding amount appropriate for your pet and the exact product. Feeding needs vary, so follow veterinary and manufacturer guidance rather than using this calculator to choose a ration.
Does the estimate account for food already at home?
No. It assumes the entire calculated amount must be supplied by newly purchased packages. Subtract usable food already on hand when planning a purchase.
Are treats and price changes included?
Only the food, package size, and price entered are included. Treats, supplements, taxes, delivery fees, discounts, spoilage, and future price changes are not included.
